Graduated from Leningrad State University (URSS). The PhD degree and Habilitation received from Ioffe PhysicoTechnical Institute (Lenngrad). In Ioffe Institute director of the laboratory on solid state optics. Since 1991 works in France first as associated professor in Ecole Polytechnique (Paris region) and since 1995 as professor in Aix-Marseille University. In the University - President of the Physical Department, than Director the Laboratory on Condensed Matter Physics. Founder of the Research Centre on Nanosciences (2003) and its first Director.
Scientific area - physics of semiconductors: spintronics, surface physics, plasmonics (near field optical microscopy), nano-lithography and nano-device fabrication. Involved in a number of European Research Projects in the framework of the Programs on Nanotechnology and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). Expert work for European Commission on these Programs. Organizer of European Conference on Ultimate Lithography and Nanodevice Engineering
Award: USSR State Prize for the optical investigation of spin effects in semiconductors (1975).

Graduated and received PhD from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Research towards PhD was conducted at the Institute of Biophysics in Puschino, Moscow Region. Since 1992 works in the United States, first as a research associate in University of Pittsburgh and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Since 1998 directed research laboratories in cardiac imaging and was on the faculty of Cleveland Clinic, Case Western Reserve University and Washington University. Founder of Cardialen, Inc, a company developing low voltage implantable defibrillation therapy for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias.
Scientific area: cardiac physiology and biomedical engineering, mechanisms of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias, optical imaging of biological tissues, implantable devices, mathematical modeling of cardiac physiology, history of physiology and cardiology. Organizer and past Chairman of Cardiac Arrhythmia Mechanisms Gordon Research Conference. Member of many editorial boards and review panels.
Awards: Fellow of the American Heart Association, Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society, Honorary Member of the Russian Society for Clinical Electrophysiology, Arrhythmology and Cardiac Pacing, Hartwell Prize for Innovative Research.

Graduated with honors and received PhD in Physics from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Started his scientific carrier at P.N. Lebedev Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow and later worked in many research centers abroad. At present, Professor in Physics at Leibniz University Hannover and Head of Nanotechnology Department at the Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V., Germany.
Scientific areas: laser physics and laser applications, quantum and nonlinear optics, nano- and biophotonics, nanoengineering, biomedical implants and devices, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
